Friend, are you at a God-sized step in your life?
What is a God-sized step?
It is a step that God has called you too, but it FEELS way too BIG. You doubt that you are able to do what is before you This step can seem like a mountain… an impossibility… a step that you cannot take on your own.
We need God for all of our God-sized steps.
I am so thankful that the Bible clearly states that we can do ALL things through Him who STRENGTHENS us.
Philippians 4:13 (AMP)
I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]
Wow, that scripture leaves NO wiggle room to get out of doing what God has called us to.
Let’s break that scripture down…
“I can do all things [which He has called me to do]”
This does not say that I can do anything in the world that I want to… NO! BUT IT DOES TELL ME THAT I CAN DO EVERYTHING … ALL THINGS that God has called me to do.
What God-sized step has God called you to? Raising godly children, providing for a family, helping with extended family situations, repairing a relationship, stepping out in faith into that unknown territory, or glorifying God as you go through that difficult season?
Perhaps it is to trust a new friend or share what God is doing in your life, or obediently step out to serve, finish what you started, or just do what God has called you to?
Do you recognize a God-sized Step in your life right now?
Often our God-sized steps overwhelm us. We may not want to take the step set before us but with all of our heart we do want to go through this season in a way that glorifies God.
We may desire to forgive, be kind, be courageous, be generous, have hope, walk by peace and pour out love as Christ has loved us… but how … when all we see is the unlikelihood of our being able to do it?
In the next line of Philippians 4:13 we are told how to take our next faithful steps…
HOW DO WE TAKE THIS NEXT FAITHFUL STEP???
Through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—"
Yes, IN HIM we are strengthened, and empowered to fulfill His purposes in our life. When we are on a God-sized step, it is only THROUGH HIM that we can confidently go forward with thoughts like these from the Philippians 4:13 scripture:
“I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency;
I am ready for anything and equal to anything
through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”
God does not call us to be self-sufficient… fulfilling all things in our own strength. No, He wants us to KNOW that IN CHRIST we are sufficient to do all that He is calling us to.
Friend, in this life I have a keen understanding that I am not able to do what is before me… But thank God, I know my God will enable me to do all that He calls me to.
When our heart is focused on His goodness and His sufficiency in every situation, then faith is close, and fear is far. We choose what we will focus on. When we choose to walk with Him, He will strengthen us and fill us with His peace, and by our faith we will be anchored to Him.
Our answer is, “I am not able, I am enabled!”
The truth is we must embrace not being enough. This is when we become dependent on the One who is enough!
• I am not enough . . . but He is enough. In my own strength I cannot do enough . . . but I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
• I am not able. I have been enabled by the spirit of God that lives in me!
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV) His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Scripture is so important… How else would we know that His divine power (His Holy Spirit that lives in us) HAS GIVEN US EVERYTHING WE NEED to LIVE a godly life. Guys, it is not us but Him IN US and Him working THROUGH US that enables us to live this life in a way that glorifies Him and blesses others. He is the One who calls us to these God-sized steps.
Our lives will bring God glory when we are not striving to be enough and we rest in the fact that Jesus is enough. His Spirit is enough to fill, lead, and teach us the way we should go! Covered and strengthened by Jesus is enough!
I often remind myself and others:
If God has called us to it… He will get us through it!

Now may the Lord of peace Himself grant you His peace at all times and in every way [that peace and spiritual well-being that comes to those who walk with Him, regardless of life’s circumstances]. The Lord be with you all.
