How My Grandson's Observations Reflect Our Relationship with God
My baby grandson looked at my grey Ked shoe, picked it up and said, “Nana's!”
I was struck by the profound simplicity of that moment. It’s not just about shoes, but a beautiful illustration of recognition and love.
See, I never picked up my shoes and said these are my shoes... he observed, absorbed, and understood through our close relationship.
Because he's close he notices things about me.
I never taught him ... he noticed the shoes I wear...
he knows my voice...
he recognizes my patterns … even the small things that I do, like how I walk down the steps… he'll yell out my name “Nana!" because he knows it's me even when he can't see me.

My grandson knows I love him with all of my heart.
He knows he can trust me if he needs me.
I'm there for him.
He knows he can come to me if he has a problem.
He knows I will comfort him if he's sad, hurt, or tired.
He knows I want to cheer him on as he does good things.
He even invites me in, “Nana watch!!!”.
He knows I am his Nana. He knows he's my grandbaby. Even though I’m sure he doesn’t understand it all, he knows we have a special relationship.
The more time we spend together the deeper our relationship becomes.
The same is with us in relationship with our God. The more time we spend with Him the deeper our relationship gets. That's why He calls us to come close and see and sit with Him. He'll give you rest. He'll comfort you and He'll build you up and give you all that you need because you are His!!!
Matthew 11:28-30 (TLB)
Come to me and I will give you rest—all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Wear my yoke—for it fits perfectly—and let me teach you; for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls; for I give you only light burdens.”
We get to have a close, personal relationship with a loving God who gently teaches and humbly leads us to find the rest He has for our souls.
When we are close to Him we recognize Him.
We recognize how He meets us.
We see how He leads us throughout our everyday life.
We experience how He guides us.
We hear His voice even when we don't see him.
We get to be …
comforted by Him (Is.61:2 He comforts all who mourn)
encouraged by God because we're close to Him
know Him through the Word of God, the Bible
talk with Him through prayer
worship Him as an overflow of our heart
This is the gift we are given to have a real significant relationship with our Lord, knowing He loves us and we are able to love Him.
It is amazing to compare how much I love my grandson, which is with my whole heart, and to know it can’t even compare to a drop of God’s love for us.
May you invite God in, meet with Him, walk with Him, and allow Him to overflow your life and days with good things.
Love you, friend,
Dawn
