God meets us right where we are.

Friend,
One of my favorite things about scripture is that God never meets people after they've figured everything out.
God meets them in the middle.
Moses was uncertain.
David was overwhelmed.
Peter was impulsive.
The Samaritan woman was carrying shame.
And yet God met every one of them exactly where they were.
God met me in the middle of my muddy pit… a pit of destruction and depression.
I was 19 when I walked into my friend’s house one summer night, and her mom looked at me and gently asked this simple question- “How … are … you?”
Her heartfelt question carried a lot of weight.
She knew that five weeks prior, my life had been devastated by losing my fiancé.
Shockingly he was murdered in front of me.
From the first moment of that traumatic event, I cried out to God. After his death, my devastated heart needed to know that my fiancé was with God in heaven. I continued to cry out to God and He answered me. God gave me a dream about my fiancé, and I knew that he was in heaven.
That is why I blurted out to her, “I just need to know that I will go to heaven to be with him.”
She quickly responded, “You can know for certain that you will go to heaven.” I questioned, “How could I know for sure?”
That is when she told me the Bible tells us that we can know for sure.
Then she asked me, “Do you believe that Jesus is God’s Son?”
“Yes, of course.” was my heartfelt response.
Then she asked, “Do you know you are a sinner?”
I declared, “I am a great big sinner!”
She just smiled as we prayed and I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior.
That was 40 years ago TODAY!!!
I am forever grateful!
Her love and concern gave me an opportunity to see God more clearly.
God met me in the middle of my broken, messy life.
Sometimes we think we need to become stronger, more disciplined, or more spiritual before God can really work in our lives.
But transformation has never started with our perfection.
It starts with our willingness.
It starts with our heart.
We are never too far, too broken, or too dirty.
That's why I love the image and teaching God gave me of Bring Your Cup.
These pictures are an example of the transformation that happens when we are in the Word of God.
We bring God our cup … As is.
God does the filling.
God uses the fresh clean water, which is the Word of God, to cleanse us.
He overflows our cup with good things!
God has done this in my life, and He can do it in yours!
