Grace During Transitions

Updated: Apr 12

New beginnings can be very happy times. They can also be filled with transitions. And transitions usually include change and adjustments. We may need to adjust to changes in our routines, schedules, and even plans for the future.

When we are in times of transition, we need to closely hold onto grace. Why? Because transitions can be hard! Even if it is a job or family transition that we really are excited for… there is still a learning curve, and it can take a while to catch our footing and feel like we are gaining ground once again.

One big life event is that our third grandchild has been born!! We are amazed that God has blessed us with three grandbabies in less than a year. We are over the moon excited!

Our lives have also been through a lot of transitions for the past year, but last month they caught up to me. Recently I told my friend all that is going on in our family… all of the big life events and changes in responsibilities, which have been wonderful. But there have also been harder and more emotional things that were time consuming.

As we were speaking I said, “I feel bad that I did not get an email out in March. I have to catch up.” She quickly responded, “You don’t have to catch up – just start where you are.”

That is GRACE! We need grace in transitions.

Truth is I can’t go back and change what I chose to focus on.

We are not behind; we are right where we need to be. We are in the place to change, make the plan, or do the thing. Today is the day we have been given by God. Grace covers us.

Psalm 118: 24 (NLT)

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Change is human. We all go through changes and transformations. Change can look messy. We may not see all of the steps or the full path ahead of us, but we can pray for God to help us take our next right step.

In new seasons many times we have to say, “no” to some of the things we once said, “yes” to. Some of those things we really enjoyed but in this season we can’t continue. I have found that if God calls me out of something for a season or longer, even if it hurts, His will is best for me.

In transition God shows us grace in the changes.

I believe I am not the only one going through a transition or feeling stuck not knowing the next right step. I wrote down a few points that may help you too.

God is rooting for you, so …

1.      Have grace with yourself.

2.      You don’t have to catch up – just start where you are.

3.      Change is human.

4.      Keep it simple. Easy is okay.  Perfection is not God’s plan.

5.      Saying, “No” or “Yes” can open the door to God’s best in this season.

6.      God calls us to walk with Him. He loves us right where we are.

During our high highs, or even in our harder seasons God can lead us through. Let’s trust Him. Pray. And ask Him for the wisdom, courage, and strength that we need. My heart’s desire is to glorify God in this season.

Joshua 1:9 NIV

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

If this resonated with you or you are in a transition in your own life… let me know. I will pray for you and cheer you on.

Grace and peace in your season,

Dawn

PS In our next blog I will share one of my devotions called, Do the Next Right Thing. This material has helped others get unstuck and continue to grow in their daily life.
