He Has Enabled Us!

When I started my quest to learn how to have God’s peace, God showed me that I was allowing the thoughts that I was not able or not enough to rob me of the peace I so desperately desired.

As I was writing my book Continuous Peace, I remember a friend sharing that when she returns from work and if she spends more time with her kids and she sees dishes in the sink, she immediately feels I am not able to keep my house clean enough. If she keeps the house super-clean, she feels guilty thinking, I am not a good enough mom.

Does that sound familiar?

I think we all have allowed this common type of thinking to choke the life out of the good that we are accomplishing.

When we feel we are not able or not enough, it can lead to insecurity, lack of confidence, timidity, or fear of stepping out to try something new. We perceive others as better, smarter, or more capable than ourselves. Perfection can become our goal, causing us to continually fall short.

Do you find yourself striving to be perfect instead of just doing your best in the areas that God has called you to?

When we set too high a standard for ourselves and we don’t measure up, it can cause us to feel guilty or not valued. We can go through the motions not fully enjoying our lives because every time we turn around, we are reminded of an area where we feel we are “not enough.” We can judge ourselves harshly and even condemn ourselves quickly.

Often times this negative way of living is based on lies that we are believing.

Do any of these lies sound familiar?

LIES:

  • You are not able to do that!

  • You always mess up!

  • Stop trying—you will embarrass yourself or you will make things worse.

  • Others can do this much better.

  • My best is never enough!

Friend, I know how hard it is when we feel that we are not able or not enough, or even how impossible it is for us when we strive to be perfect.

BUT here is the TRUTH: We are not able, but God is able! He has enabled us for all that we face in this life.

LET’S CONQUER THOSE LIES WITH THESE TRUTHS!

Here are some true statements that you can believe and hold onto: God is in me, and He has enabled me. He will instruct me and teach me in the way I should go. He will help me to do all that I am called to do. God will give me strength when I am weary. When I am weak, He will increase my power. My hope is in the Lord. He loves me! He will renew my strength. He counsels me with His loving eye upon me. By His grace I am built up and set apart for His purposes.

Psalm 32:8 (NIV)

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

God’s truths can overwrite the lies that we are believing!

In Christ, we are enough!

P.S. We can retrain our thinking!!! A great way to retrain our thinking is to write down some truths that you want to believe. Then read them and say them out loud in the morning, or at night… or any time during the day. God’s Word is powerful. We can reprogram our mind by knowing what God says about us.

**Let me know some of the truths you want to begin to believe. You are who God says you are… LOVED & In Him Enough.
