I Am Confident of This

Updated: Aug 17, 2023

David was known as a man after God’s own heart.

Boy, does that touch me. God looked at David and saw his heart. David had a heart that desired God in such a way that God testified about David and had it penned for us to know for all time.

Acts 13:22 (NIV) After removing Saul, He made David their king.

God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

As I think about David’s faithfulness, I think back to how he described the One he served.

David wrote in Psalm 23 a beautiful description of the God he serves. It reveals the relationship that He had with God.

I hope this encourages you as it has encouraged me.

First, David confidently speaks of how God provides for his needs. I also love how David shows his dependency upon God by allowing God to lead him in paths that are right.

Psalm 23 (NIV):

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.

Friend, David begins with proclaiming the beauty of personally walking with God. He is our Shepherd; caring for our needs, refreshing our soul, and leading us in the way we should go.

But then David takes us to the harder places of his walk with God. He mentions the dark valleys. We have all experienced a dark valley. Some of us may be near or still in that dark place. But David is our example that even there, we can trust in the Lord.

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

This last portion of Psalm 23 reveals why David did not fear, because he KNEW God was near. He experienced God’s protection and he reminded Himself that God was with him. He understood that God was faithful and that He would not leave him. David was comforted by knowing God would protect him as a great Shepherd who protects His sheep.

David was comforted by knowing God anointed him and prepared him for all that he would face in this life.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

David was faithful and he loved the Lord. He trusted God in all the seasons of his life. God saw his heart and He was pleased.

Friend, God sees your heart. God is your great Shepherd.

  • He is with you, even through the valleys of life.

  • He will not leave you, nor forsake you.

  • He will provide for your needs and nourish your soul.

  • He will guide you along the right path for His name’s sake.

  • He will fill you and overflow your cup with good things.

We can be confident that God’s goodness and love will follow us throughout our life, and we will dwell with the Lord forever. What a great reminder of His great love!

Let me know if any of this spoke to you or if there is anything I can pray for you. Thanks!

I love you friend,

Dawn
