Recently I was asked:
What’s the one thing you want to ask God for?
Then he continued, “Ask God for that one thing.”
So, I thought about it and then I prayed.
Our God knows. He cares and He wants us to bring Him our burdens. He also wants us to bring Him the desires of our hearts.
Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
I love that scripture.
The word DELIGHT is defined as: enjoyment, pleasure, happiness, joy, gladness, amusement. It also means to appreciate, relish, enjoy, savor, and take pleasure in.
Does our relationship with the Lord bring us enjoyment, pleasure, happiness, and joy? Do we appreciate, relish, enjoy, and take pleasure in Him and our time with Him?
Consider how you delight in Him.
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. One thing I know is that when God is my delight, the desires of my heart will be right. The Amplified version of this same Scripture states it like this:
Psalm 37:4 (AMPC)
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.
I like how it says the secret petitions of our heart because many times we don’t wear our heart on our sleeve, yet God knows.
How often do we shrink back from asking God for what we need or desire? No prayer request is too small or too big for our amazing God. Let’s pray and share the secret places of our heart with Him.
Luke 1:37 (NIV) For Nothing is impossible with God.
Our God knows what is in our heart. He cares about us. He wants to meet us where we are. I know when God is my delight, my relationship with Him deepens, and it is easier for me to share the desires of my heart with Him.
