Do you like bird watching?

Last month we witnessed the beautiful journey of a mom robin who laid 4 eggs in a wreath on our deck. We watched both parents diligently care for their young. Today I am going to share this story and some pictures with you.

First on a funny note… on our 37th anniversary this year … what was one of the main things we did? You got it, sit on the deck and watch the birds. I laugh because it is funny, and our kids definitely consider us old now. Lol

This bird watching journey started when my daughter took a photo of a nest with 4 blue robin eggs in it.  Three days later I came outside and noticed a little piece of blue shell and then to my amazement I saw a tiny robin on a piece of furniture directly below the nest. I thought it was dead, so I asked my husband to remove it. He was shocked when he realized that the tiny bird was still alive.  He decided to try to put it back in the nest. Not wanting to touch it, he slid a spoon under the bird and lifted it back into the nest. This picture shows how tiny the bird was as he laid on a spoon. We also captured him reunited with his sibling and unhatched egg. When we added the bird to the nest we knew that the 4th egg was gone, leaving 3 chances for 3 baby birds.

The adult robins care for their nest by removing all pieces of the egg and any baby birds that are not alive. We think when one of the parent birds were removing the shell - the baby bird that we found was still attached or stuck to the shell and when they noticed it they immediately dropped it. I am glad we were able to put him back. Because he did grow up and fly away!

We captured the following picture of the mom or dad taking turns sitting on the nest keeping the eggs and tiny birds warm throughout the day and night. They both also diligently fed each of the birds all day long. The bottom two pictures show how much bigger they each became in just 3 days.  They could stretch their heads and beaks to lay them up on the edge of the nest. Look how cute!

In just a few weeks those 3 baby birds grew… practiced their singing and flew away! As my husband and I realized the amazing way – God created these birds – it caused us to be in awe of God.

I hope this reminder of God’s amazing creation was a blessing to you!

A great reminder for us … if God cares for the birds how much more does He care for us?

Matthew 6:26-27, 33-34 (NIV)

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Let’s gain confidence in our heavenly Father who beautifully cares for us and all of His creation.

Enjoy all that the Lord has created!

PS I’d love to hear from you. You can share how your spring has been.  Has God been speaking to you through His beautiful creation? Have you been in awe of God? Let me know.
