Hello friend, happy Thanksgiving! What a wonderful season to be grateful! Last week I asked you to consider and share your answers to these two prompts:
Reading your answers to the last email blessed me and heightened my gratitude this Thanksgiving. So thank you!
I’m so happy to share some of those answers with you.
First, someone responded with this:
This is crazy that you sent this because I have been studying the word grateful!!
The definition for grateful is feeling or showing appreciation or kindness. So I have been defining it in my own life, not just as a feeling but as an action as well.
A grateful heart will be thankful. A grateful heart will always decide to believe the best, remember what has been, and look forward to what is to come. A grateful heart will remember what Jesus did and feel convicted to love others the same way.
A grateful heart won't ignore the miracles. A grateful heart won't lack appreciation. A grateful heart won't ignore the cross.
Wow! What a wonderful response! I was truly blessed by each response given.
A Grateful heart will:
A grateful heart will serve the Lord and seek to please Him.
A grateful heart will see reality more clearly.
A grateful heart will remember that God was faithful before and He will be thankful again!
A grateful heart will be still to hear God’s voice.
A grateful heart is transparent and open to God’s ways.
A grateful heart is willing to share.
A grateful heart will be patient in difficult circumstances.
A grateful heart will trust the Lord and put Him 1st above everything.
A grateful heart will always take the time to give thanks.
A grateful heart will share their blessings with others materially & spiritually.
A grateful heart will always bless Him!
A grateful heart will love as He has loved me.
A grateful heart will be kind and warm humored with others.
A grateful heart will continue to see reality and heal the parts that are broken, so they won't hurt others anymore.
A grateful heart will praise ... will look on the bright side of things ... and will appreciate what God has given them: friends, etc.
A grateful heart will rest in God's presence.
A Grateful heart won’t:
A grateful heart will not believe lies.
A grateful heart won’t be stuck in the past.
A grateful heart won't compare itself to others.
A grateful heart won’t cheat the Lord.
A grateful heart won't forget those in need.
A grateful heart won't take things for granted.
A grateful heart won't run from the Lord but seek Him in everything.
A grateful heart won't be complacent.
A grateful heart will not take credit for what God has done.
A grateful heart won't allow themselves to be hangry and short tempered.
A grateful heart will not take credit for what God has done.
A grateful heart won't complain.
A grateful heart won't complain!
A grateful heart will not grumble and complain.
I loved the answers we received. I was amazed at those that overlapped each other, such as how many people responded that a grateful heart won't complain! That is powerful to think about because… when we are genuinely grateful- it is hard to complain. Right?
Being grateful or thankful is a heart issue.
As I looked up scripture regarding being grateful or thankful I continually saw that thankfulness is a heart issue and God was our subject.
Ephesians 5:20 (AMP)
At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:16 (NAS)
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Friend may our heart be filled with gratitude and overflow with giving thanks to our Lord!
I am thankful for you and grateful that we get to journey together!
Dawn
